Turkish Coffee Pot
Is my Turkish coffee stale?
I looked around on the internet and found that Mehmet Efendi is the most recommended brand of coffee. I have the pot correct and has prepared the coffee several times with different measures, but just do not know well. This is the first time in several years I have had Turkish coffee, and perhaps my memory serves me, but this just does not taste good. Did I get a bad batch, maybe? Has a strong taste that I can only describe as magnified tap water, mixed with some burnt coffee taste.
It is recommended not to use tap water to make coffee, but also not to use distilled water. Spring water is best. Turkish coffee is made with a certain type of water heater, and brewing with sugar. Make sure you are using a good quality sugar, and the right amount. And finally, make sure your coffee is fresh. Always buy beans. There are still reactions occurring after the coffee is roasted and its better to leave them in the form of grain until you are ready to prepare. Often, the coffee you buy online now obsolete. Coffee goes bad after 1-2 weeks. If Turkish coffee was probably in a retail store, and was extremely sweet. I would like to change their source of water, use pure cane sugar, and try find fresher coffee. Most cities have a local coffee roaster, use it to get some very cool beans.
